ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

Creative Therapy Autism Centre is a locally owned practice, founded in 2019, that provides assessment and evidence-based intervention for children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other development delays in Northwestern Ontario.
Creative Therapy Autism Centre employs a team of qualified professionals that work with children and youth, in partnership with their families, to develop needs-based programs to fit each child’s individual profile.  Creative Therapy Autism Centre recognizes the struggles that the families of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Northwestern Ontario face.
We believe that families know their children best and need to be an integral part of the planning process. Creative Therapy Autism Centre aims to work collaboratively with clients’ families and all community partners involved in order to provide effective, comprehensive and client and family-centred care.

OUR HISTORY

Creative Therapy Autism Centre is a new division of Creative Therapy Associates, a locally owned rehabilitation company that has developed an excellent reputation for providing quality Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy services in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario since its inception in the early 1990s.
Both directors, Liz Hathazi and Melanie Maunula, have been team members of Creative Therapy Associates for more than 2 decades, lifelong residents of Thunder Bay, and currently lead a growing team committed to delivering quality services to their community.
Creative Therapy Associates has been passionate about trying to make a difference in Northwestern Ontario by developing effective programs that aim to build capacity in rural and underserviced areas and bridge gaps in service for families and organizations.
In recognition of the increased incidence of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the frustration expressed by families due to a lack of service providers and evidence-based interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorder, improved access to high quality and comprehensive services for children and families became the vision for Creative Therapy Autism Centre.
With the guidance of amazing mentors, Cindy Harrison founder of ACT Learning Centre, and Alison Turner, founder of 1 to 1 Autism, and through the partnership with Shining Through Centre, a not-for-profit charitable organization established in 2001, Creative Therapy Autism Centre was founded in 2019.
